Video Consultations

The Covid-19 pandemic is making us all do things differently, safely and at a distance. To reduce the number people attending surgery for their appointments we immediately moved over to telephone consultations where possible. Telephone consultations are very useful and can help patients and clinicians sort out a lot of things before a face to face consultation is required. However sometimes it is necessary for clinicians and patients to see each other.

We started to explore the different video consultation systems. Our trials have been successful with good anecdotal feedback so we are now looking to increase the use of video.

When we think a video consultation would be useful, and you agree that you have the technical facilities (internet connected smartphone, tablet or laptop/desktop computer with webcam and microphone) we can use our texting service, AccuRx, to send out a link in a text message to your phone. All you need to do is tap the link or type it into an Internet browser on your computer, give permission to access your camera and microphone and you’ll be connected to the clinician. NB Internet Explorer is too old to support video consultations. Please use an up to date browser for example Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

The system we use is NHS approved and secure. Your mobile number will not be shared with anyone except AccuRx and the mobile network in order to send the initial text message.

The surgery is closed for staff training.
